Georgia announces dismissal of Lady Bulldogs basketball coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson
The Georgia Lady Bulldogs and women’s basketball coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson announced a mutual parting of ways on Saturday.
“We would like to thank Coach ABE for her leadership and wish her well moving forward,” Josh Brooks, Georgia’s athletic director, said in a statement. “We are committed to building on the proud tradition of Lady Bulldog basketball and will continue to support our program with the necessary resources for future success… our search for a new head coach will focus on someone who will carry on this legacy and connect with our student-athletes, alumni and supporters in an impactful way.”
Abrahamson-Henderson, who coached at UCF (2016-22) before heading to Athens, went 69-59 as the Lady Bulldogs’ head coach. She took Georgia to 2 NCAA Tournaments (2023 & 2026). The Lady Bulldogs fell to No. 10 seed Virginia 82-73 in the first round of this year’s tournament. After beating Georgia, the Cavaliers toppled No. 2 seed Iowa 83-75 (2 OT) to become the first ‘First Four’ women’s team to reach the Sweet Sixteen.
Prior to UCF and Georgia, Abrahamson-Henderson coached at Missouri State (2002-07) and Albany (2010-16). Her all-time record is 441-216. She has made the NCAA Tournament in 13 of her 21 seasons as a D1 college head coach.
