John Calipari is facing some criticism after sharing his lack of interest in the SEC Tournament ahead of the action in Nashville.

On Monday morning, The Chuck & Bo Show shared a clip on X (formerly Twitter) from Courtside with Cal in which the Arkansas head coach made his comment.

“I don’t care about the conference tournament, which is why we won it so many times. Because I could care less. The tournament that matters is the NCAA Tournament,” Calipari said.

“Now, you play that tournament to get the best seed you can get. And if you’re gonna get to the finals and win or don’t go to the finals and lose because you’re exhausted and you’ve got to play on Tuesday and Wednesday. So, I’m like, let’s play well and try to improve our seed.”

The opening statement did not play well on social media.

As expected, Calipari took some heat in replies to posts by The Chuck & Bo Show and Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones.

As was pointed out in multiple instances, Calipari’s Razorbacks are considered a bubble team entering the SEC Tournament. On Sunday evening, ESPN bracketology expert Joe Lunardi placed Arkansas in the Last Four Byes section of his bubble watch. A poor showing in Nashville could change that, with so many other bubble teams hoping to use conference tournament action to improve their standing.

Cal’s Hogs open SEC Tournament action on Wednesday. Arkansas, the conference tourney’s No. 9 seed, faces No. 16 seed South Carolina.
