Malachi Moreno declares for NBA Draft, sends message to Kentucky fans regarding future
Malachi Moreno declared for the NBA Draft on Monday, but the Kentucky center’s future situation is a complex one, as he explained on social media to Big Blue Nation.
While the freshman who was born down the road from Lexington in Georgetown, Ky., intends to test the draft waters this spring, he’s also going to maintain his college eligibility. That means if Moreno doesn’t like what his draft status looks like, he can come back to the college game for his sophomore season.
And if the 7-foot, 250-pounder does come back to college, he wished to make 1 thing clear in a passionate message on his Instagram — he’ll be returning to Kentucky if things don’t work out with his draft intentions.
“If I’m back in college next season, it’ll be right here with Big Blue Nation,” wrote Moreno on Instagram.
Here is Moreno’s full Instagram message to Kentucky fans on Monday:
Moreno played in all 36 games for the Wildcats this past season, averaging 7.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He also shot an impressive 58.2% from the field during his freshman season in Lexington, which could also be his final one at UK or, just maybe, it won’t be.
Time will tell on that hot topic, which was part of the point of Moreno’s social media message on Monday.
While Kentucky fell short this season of playing for another national title, there are 2 teams waiting to clash on Monday night in Indianapolis for all the marbles, and here is what the Kalshi market currently says about the odds for who will win it all:
