Tennessee guard Troy Henderson has reversed course. The Vols freshman will return to Knoxville next season.
According to Mike Wilson of Volquest, Henderson, a member of Tennessee’s 2025 recruiting class, never actually entered his name into the transfer portal after announcing his plans to do so on Tuesday. While a developmental piece, Henderson’s return is good news for a Tennessee team that will be with a largely unfamiliar roster next season.
Henderson joins DeWayne Brown as the only confirmed returners to Tennessee in 2026, alongside freshman signees Marquis Clark, Manny Green and Ralph Scott. There are only a few decisions still to be made, too. Vols guard Ethan Burg has still yet to publicly announce a decision, and Nate Ament still has to decide if he wants to stay another year or enter the NBA Draft (as is expected).
Henderson showed some promise for Tennessee, especially in non-conference play. He boasted a strong assist rate and was a capable 3-point shooter, though the Vols would love to see his efficiency increase heading into his sophomore year. The question will be whether Henderson can take a step to rival any incoming guards out of the transfer portal.
Speaking of, Tennessee has so far seen 6 players enter the transfer portal. This includes JP Estrella, Cade Phillips, Jaylen Carey, Amari Evans, Bishop Boswell and Clarence Massamba.
