Tommy Lloyd announces decision on North Carolina candidacy
Tommy Lloyd has decided to remain at Arizona and will not pursue the North Carolina head coaching job.
Lloyd announced that news at a press conference on Friday, one day before his Wildcats will take on Michigan in the Final Four. Lloyd had been linked to the UNC job since the Tar Heels parted ways with Hubert Davis.
“I’m happy to announce I’m staying at Arizona,” Lloyd said. “North Carolina is an amazing place … It’s an honor to even be considered for that job.”
Lloyd has been viewed as one of the top candidates to take over at UNC alongside former Florida coach Billy Donovan. With Lloyd out of the picture, Carolina will now focus on Donovan or perhaps other candidates throughout college basketball.

Other candidates include Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland and Iowa coach McCollum, among others.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Lloyd has agreed to a new deal with Arizona that will make him one of the five highest-paid coaches in college basketball.
Arizona and Michigan will tip off at the Final Four on Saturday night at 8:49 p.m. ET.
