Walter Clayton is on a March Madness run that many have dreamed of being on. He hit huge shots to help Florida defeat the 2-time defending national champions vs. UConn. Then in the Elite Eight, he delivered 1 of the best performances in recent years by dropping 30 points in an incredible comeback win against Texas Tech.
During the first half against Auburn in the Final Four, he broke Joakim Noah’s Florida NCAA Tournament record of 97 points. He has drawn the attention of college basketball fans all across the country the last couple of weeks, but his performance against the Tigers has social media comparing him to Steph Curry.
Curry put on a run for the ages in 2008, as he helped lead the Davidson Wildcats to the Elite Eight, before losing to eventual national champion Kansas, 59-57. Curry averaged 32 PPG, while making 23 3-pointers in those 4 games.
Not only are the statistics similar, but the type of shots that Clayton is hitting is also similar. He is taking and hitting those deep, contested shots that fans will never forget. No matter how the Gators end their season, college basketball fans won’t soon forget the run by Clayton.
