Georgia will be without 2 of its top pass catchers Saturday against South Carolina, per multiple reports.

Wide receiver and playmaker AD Mitchell didn’t make the trip because of an ankle injury he suffered in the blowout win over Samford. Kirby Smart said earlier this week that Mitchell was doubtful; so, Mitchell’s absence doesn’t come at a big surprise.

Tight end Arik Gilbert didn’t make the trip either. Gilbert, who sat out last season due to personal reasons after transferring from LSU, will also be out Saturday against the Gamecocks. Yes, Georgia is loaded at tight end with Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington, but having Gilbert in the fold is key for the depth chart. The sky’s the limit for a talent like Gilbert.

This season, Bowers has recorded 5 catches for 95 yards after having an incredible freshman season posting 882 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. Washington has caught 4 passes this year for 66 yards.

Gilbert hasn’t recorded a reception yet in 2022, and that won’t come in Week 3 either.

Georgia and South Carolina kickoff at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN.
