Two SEC players have been named finalists for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation’s best center.
Georgia center David Andrews and Auburn center Reese Dismukes both are up for the award, which will be presented live during the ESPNU Red Carpet Show on Dec. 11, immediately preceding the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Andrews started a team-high 39th game in Georgia’s season-finale against Georgia Tech. The senior anchored an offensive line that blocked for the eighth-ranked scoring offense nationally and 12th-ranked rushing offense. Andrews also served as a captain for 10 of the Bulldogs’ 12 games.
Dismukes is a four-year starter at Auburn, making 49 career starts, which is third-most in school history. The senior was recently named an Outland Trophy finalist, and was a 2013 Rimington Trophy finalist and first-team All-SEC center. Dismukes earned All-Freshman honors in 2011, and is the leader for an offensive front that blocks for one of the most prolific offenses in college football, averaging nearly 300 yards rushing during the last two seasons.
The other four finalists are Jack Allen of Michigan State, B.J. Finney of Kansas State, Andy Gallik of Boston College and Hroniss Grasu of Oregon.
The winner of the Rimington Trophy is selected by determining the consensus All-American center from three All-American teams.
The Rimington Trophy committee uses three of the most prestigious All-America teams to determine its winner: Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and the Football Writers’ Association of America.
The winner will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 17, 2015.
