LSU’s season didn’t live up to expectations.
To say there was drama would be an understatement.
Here are the 5 defining moments of LSU’s 2015:
1. Les Miles almost getting fired: There was a point where it looked like Miles would really be headed out of Baton Rouge. There were rumors of emails sent by powerful alumni that wanted a change. But after fans showed support for Miles and LSU beat Texas A&M with players carrying the coach off the field after the regular-season finale, athletic director Joe Alleva said that Miles would remain coach.
2. The emergence of Leonard Fournette: Fournette was better than predicted, finishing the year with 1,953 yards and 22 touchdowns. More impressive than his stats was Fournette’s ability to conduct himself in the media with class and grace. He represents both LSU and the NCAA well.
3. But what about Brandon Harris? There were higher hopes for Harris. He was inconsistent and couldn’t throw well enough to keep opponents from stacking the box. He finished with 2,165 passing yards, 13 TDs and six interceptions.
4. The Texas Bowl performance: Sometimes bowl results may not be important. But for LSU, winning the Texas Bowl meant a lot. The Tigers played with obvious passion and rolled over Texas Tech 56-27. Fournette rushed for 212 yards and scored five TDs, but the LSU’s defense was also impressive. The Red Raiders rushed for just 29 yards on 26 carries. The Tigers front seven was dominant. LSU heads into the offseason with some momentum.
5. The loss to Alabama: Heading into the matchup with the Tide, LSU was 7-0 record and playing with noticeable swagger and confidence. But LSU fell 30-16, triggering a three-game losing streak. The Tigers never looked the same.
