Aaron Murray recently shared his keys to the game for the upcoming rivalry matchup between his alma mater Georgia vs. Florida in Jacksonville.
Undefeated No. 1 Georgia is coming off a bye week after beating Vanderbilt 37-20. Meanwhile, Florida (5-2) also had a bye week after edging South Carolina 41-39.
The ESPN analyst says that Florida’s running attack will be something to pay attention to. Murray has been disappointed with the Gators’ inconsistency on the ground. Murray believes Georgia has enough up front to corral Florida’s playmakers while also lauding the Bulldogs’ secondary.
“I think people get confused with Georgia. They’re like ‘Oh the D-line’s not that good.’ The D-line is not what it’s been the past 2 years but it’s still a really good Georgia defensive front. Tremendous defense,” Murray said. “I love the secondary. The secondary is the strength of this team, which is just a little bit different from how they’ve been built the past years.”
Murray reiterated how confounded he is at Florida’s lack of rushing success.
“It feels to me they’ve been so inconsistent running the football this year. You’ve got 2 great running backs in [Montrell] Johnson and [Trevor] Etienne. You’ve got a quarterback that’s been accurate. You can get Eugene Wilson involved in unique ways, even in the run game as well,” Murray said. “Why are they not running the ball successfully? Why can’t this offensive line get the job done?”
Murray thinks if Florida can get the rushing game going, it could make the contest more manageable for the Gators.
“If that part of the offense does come to life, then to me it’s a different ballgame,” Murray said.
Meanwhile, Murray expressed that Georgia’s offense will have different dynamic layers in the absence of the injured star tight end Brock Bowers (ankle).
“I’m not saying that Georgia is better without Brock Bowers. Georgia has the opportunity to be more explosive,” Murray said. “…Running the football, play action passes, throwing the ball down the field.”
Georgia vs. Florida is slated for a 3:30 p.m. EST kickoff (CBS).
