Brent Pry’s time with Virginia Tech has reportedly come to an end just 3 games into his 4th season.

One day after a 45-26 loss to Old Dominion in Blacksburg, Pry has been relieved of his duties. That’s according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Before being hired in 2022 to replace the fired Justin Fuente, Pry spent 8 seasons on James Franklin’s staff at Penn State, first as associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and linebackers coach before becoming the sole DC before the 2016 season. He also worked under Franklin at Vanderbilt for 3 seasons.

The Hokies went just 3-8 in his first season. But in 2023, they improved to 7-6, winning the Military Bowl at the end of the year. They then went 6-7 in 2024, qualifying for the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

But a 0-3 start to 2025 led to Pry being shown the door. The Hokies opened the season with a 24-11 loss to South Carolina before falling to Vanderbilt. Then came a 45-26 loss to Old Dominion, a game that turned out to be Pry’s last. His overall record was 16-24 with a 10-13 mark in the ACC.

Now, after nearly 30 years under the guidance of the legendary Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech will now search for its 3rd head coach this decade.
