TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A week after the University of Alabama moved up to No. 1 in the College Football Rankings, one of the polls followed suit on Sunday.
Although Florida State is still undefeated, its still of unimpressive wins against a much easier schedule continues to turn off some voters as Alabama was back atop the Amway Coaches Poll.
Last week Florida State had 39 first-place votes, Alabama 17 and Oregon six in the coaches poll. The Seminoles still had the most first-place votes with 30, but Alabama’s 25 helped it get an edge in total points, 1,474-1,462.
However, the AP poll was the exact same as last week, with FSU having 43 first-place votes and 1,476 points, and Alabama having 16 and 1,439, respectively.
The Crimson Tide is coming off a 48-14 victory over Western Carolina, while Florida State edged Boston College 20-17. Alabama hosts Auburn on Saturday (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
The playoff committee will update its rankings on Tuesday. As for the computers that used to be part of the BCS formula there’s very little agreement on the top spots:
• Jeff Sagarin: 1. Alabama, 2 Georgia, 3, Baylor, 4. Oregon, 5. Mississippi State (Auburn is sixth and Florida State 16th).
• Anderson & Hester: Has not been released yet, but had Alabama first last week over Florida State.
• Richard Billingsley: 1. Florida State, 2, Alabama, 3. Mississippi State, 4. Oregon, 5. Ohio State.
• Colley Matrix: 1. Florida State, 2. Alabama, 3. UCLA, 4. Oregon, 5. Mississippi State.
• Kenneth Massey: 1. Alabama, 2. Oregon, 3. Mississippi State, 4. Baylor, 5. Georgia (Florida State is sixth).
• Dr. Peter Wolfe: Not released yet.
Sagarin has the entire SEC West, which is already bowl eligible, in the top 17.
