In light of Alabama captain Tim Keenan (ankle) being out for the season opener against Florida State, it’s now being reported that he’ll be having tightrope surgery before the game, according to On3. The redshirt senior defensive lineman is expected to be out multiple games this season prior to his eventual return per the report.

Earlier in the day during the SEC coaches teleconference, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed the 6-foot-2 Keenan has a lower-body injury.

Our staff is unbelievable. They have done pretty impressive things on getting guys back. Waiting for the update on that (severity of Kennan’s injury),” DeBoer said. “I don’t know if I can even give you a percentage and be confident on that. We’ll see, but it is a lower-body injury.

The loss of Keenan is a tough blow for Alabama’s defensive line. Keenan appeared in all 13 games last season, tallying 40 total tackles with 7.5 for a loss and 2.5 sacks. For his college career, Keenan has amassed 79 total tackles and 3.5 sacks.

The Alabama native attended high school in Birmingham prior to joining the Crimson Tide.

No. 8 Alabama vs. Florida State will take place on Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC.
