Alabama DB Terrion Arnold reacts to Ainias Smith’s comments about Nick Saban
Texas A&M graduate wide receiver Ainias Smith made headlines when he claimed that he “knows exactly what it is that Nick Saban wants from his defense” this week.
The Aggie wide out recorded 6 catches for 85 yards and a game-tying score in the fourth quarter against Alabama in the 2021 upset victory over the Tide. Smith says that he takes some confidence from that performance, although Alabama redshirt sophomore defensive back Terrion Arnold is confused as to where his confidence comes from.
“When I saw that [Smith’s statement], I was like, ‘what does coach Saban want?'” Arnold said. “I’ve been here 3 years, and I don’t know what the guy wants.”
Arnold said that he will certainly inquire as to how Smith knows what Saban wants on Saturday, especially if slot corner Malachi Moore–who will likely be covering Smith–gets a pass breakup.
“I’d walk beside him [Smith] and be like ‘hmm, you know what he wants?’ Just little things like that trying to get in someone’s head.” Arnold said. “If they shut down, then you know they can’t play 60 minutes of football and that’s the type of person they are. But, if they keep going, it gets you going and is entertaining for the crowd and for you.”
