Alabama defensive back Domani Jackson missed most of spring practice and has been limited in fall practice despite being an NFL-caliber player. That absence has allowed 5-star freshman Dijon Lee to get a lot of reps and take advantage of the opportunity. It has also led to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack saying he can start if needed.
Playing as a true freshman or even starting as a true freshman was never going to be easy since Jackson and Zabien Brown are both returning. Still, Lee’s talent is undeniable and has earned high praise from Wommack and DB coach Maurice Linguist.
To me, with two very experienced corners that we have on this roster, we feel like Dijon can go right in,” Wommack said, per On3. “Credit to him and the way he’s playing right now. I see him as a starter in our defense.
The most intriguing part of Lee’s offer is his size. He’s listed at 6-foot-4 and 202 pounds, which is safety size with a cornerback skillset. That combination of size and skillset will allow him to make life incredibly difficult for some of the best receivers in the SEC.
Almost every spring and fall camp report has been positive about Lee, with coaches, teammates, and analysts raving about his potential and what they have seen. That rare combination of talent and high upside would lead to Lee being a starter in most years for the Crimson Tide, but this year is unique with Brown and Jackson coming back.
This is good for Wommack and the Alabama defense because having depth in the secondary is massive.
