TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Even though he didn’t practice last week due to a high ankle sprain, University of Alabama freshman left tackle Cam Robinson might still play at LSU on Saturday (8 p.m. ET, CBS).
“We haven’t ruled him out of the game,” Coach Nick Saban said on Monday. “We’ll have to see how he progresses this week. He has run on the treadmill and done well at that. We’ll see how he moves around today not really in practice but just on the side. If he continues to make progress, he could be a guy who could be available.”
Hours after Saban said he thought Robinson would be limited, he participated in drills during the observation period of practice, albeit with the second unit.
“Everybody else will practice,” said Saban, although on the new injury front junior linebacker Reggie Ragland went through drills with an elaborate cast on his left hand.
Robinson, who is from Monroe, La., and was heavily recruited by LSU, has started every game for the No. 4 Crimson Tide (7-1, 4-1 SEC) this season. After sustaining the injury early in the third quarter at Tennessee senior right guard Leon Brown slid over to left tackle with redshirt freshman Bradley Bozeman inserted.
However, during the bye practices senior Austin Shepherd moved over to left tackle with sophomore Grant Hill taking his place at right tackle. Shepherd worked ahead of Robinson with the first unit Monday.
“I saw him walking around yesterday, actually, a little bit,” senior left guard Arie Kouandjio said about Robinson. “I didn’t say anything to him, but I was very surprised to see him walking around like nothing bothering him.”
Meanwhile, reserve guard Alphonse Taylor will was at practice but not involved in any contact after sustaining a concussion during the bye week. Saban described the move as a precaution and the sophomore is expected to be full-go on Tuesday.
Junior running back T.J. Yeldon, who did not play during the fourth quarter against the Vols, and senior tight end Brian Vogler (knee, ankle) were both limited last week. Yeldon had a boot on his right foot and Vogler sported a brace on his right knee, but both are expected to play at No. 16 LSU (7-2, 3-2).
Junior linebacker Denzel Devall (ankle) returned to practice last week after missing three games.
Saban also announced that redshirt freshman running back Tyren Jones has returned to the team after being suspended last week for a violation of team rules.
