TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama coach Nick Saban said during his weekly radio show that freshmen left tackle Cam Robinson practiced every day this week and has been medically cleared to play Saturday at LSU (8 p.m. ET, CBS).

Robinson, who hails from Monroe, La., had to be helped off the field at Tennessee with a high ankle sprain on Oct. 25. The initial diagnosis was that he would miss two games, but he was able to return faster than expected.

Junior center Ryan Kelly let it slip to TV reporters on Wednesday night that Robinson had undergone surgery.

“He’s doing good,” he said. “He’s a big competitor even though he’s young. He pushes really hard through practice. I’m curious to see what happens, but he was out there looking good today.”

Saban said that a team doctor attended Thursday’s practice and checked the offensive lineman out. Senior Austin Shepherd had been practicing at left tackle, with sophomore Grant Hill in his usual spot at right tackle, during Robinson’s absence.

(Note: Thursday evening Robinson tweeted: “I haven’t forgotten anything. Personal!”)
