TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama football team moved up in this week’s rankings by the College Football Playoff Committee, but still isn’t in the coveted top four that will eventually correspond to spots in the semifinals.
After not playing last week, and No. 4 Ole Miss losing, the Crimson Tide went from sixth to No. 5 on Tuesday. Oregon, which was fifth, slid up to No. 4 behind 1. Mississippi State, 2. Florida State, and No. 3 Auburn.
Regardless, with games remaining against two of the teams ahead of it, and both at Bryant-Denny Stadium, Alabama still controls its own destiny.
“If we do what we’re supposed to do we’ll be fine,” junior linebacker Reggie Ragland said earlier Tuesday.
Alabama (7-1, 4-1 SEC) closes its regular-season road schedule at No. 16 LSU on Saturday (8 p.m. ET, CBS). It then hosts Mississippi State on Nov. 15, and Auburn on Nov. 29.
“We’re so excited now, especially since we control our own destiny,” sophomore defensive end Jonathan Allen said. “We’re really pumped for these type of games.”
