The University Alabama football team had two players named semifinalists for major awards on Monday morning.
Junior wide Amari Cooper is in the running for the Maxwell Award for most outstanding player, while safety Landon Collins is up for the Bednarik Award for best defensive player.
The Southeastern Conference has four players up for each award, out of 20 semifinalists.
The awards are distributed by the Maxwell Football Club, which will name finalists in both Nov. 24.
Last season, the Maxwell Award went to Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, while the Bednarik Award was earned by defensive tackle Aaron Donald of Pittsburgh. It was the first time that the schools involved won those particular awards. The Crimson Tide has never had a Bednarik winner.
