Alabama softball outlasts Northwestern, advances to Women’s College World Series

Alabama softball outlasted Northwestern Sunday to advance to its 3rd Women’s College World Series in the past 4 seasons.
The Crimson Tide withstood a rain delay and came out on top on the back of some strong performances from Jenna Johnson and Ally Shipman.
Shipman started things off for the Crimson Tide, driving in a pair of runs just after the end of the rain delay to take a 2-0 lead.

Johnson added some insurance in the bottom of the 5th, smacking a solo shot off the left field foul pole to increase the lead to 3-1.

Alabama is one of 2 SEC teams that will be taking the trip to Oklahoma City next week. The Lady Vols of Tennessee downed Texas in dominant fashion to advance to the WCWS on Saturday.
And as fate would have it, the Crimson Tide will face off against the Lady Vols on June 1. The Lady Vols have had Alabama’s number so far this season, winning the regular season series in Knoxville and downing the Tide in the SEC Tournament semifinals last week.
The rivalry’s most important matchup this season is on deck, however. The WCWS runs through June 9 and is a double elimination format.
