Alliance attorneys receive strongly worded letter from lawyers of famous Alston case

When the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 announced their alliance on Tuesday, lawyers quickly jumped into action.
According to Brett McMurphy of the Action Network, attorneys from the Alston case (which helped pave the way for today’s current NIL laws) sent a strongly worded letter to the attorneys from each conference.
The issue? Well, if the alliance tries to collaborate on anything regarding athlete compensation, things could get hairy legally:
In a letter obtained by @ActionNetworkHQ, Alston case attorneys notified ACC, Big Ten & Pac-12, warning the Alliance it would be illegal to “collaborate” on “future of athlete compensation.” If so Alston attorneys “will not hesitate to seek sanctions or other relief” pic.twitter.com/69eouV8sgx

In the alliance’s list of things they wanted to collaborate on, “athlete compensation” wasn’t among them. The list is included here.
For now, though, attorneys from the Alston case are making sure they send a message to this newfound alliance.
