Austin Allen hasn’t had too much trouble filling his brother’s shoes as Arkansas’ quarterback.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl on Wednesday named the junior a midseason addition to the watch list for the Manning Award, presented annually to the best quarterback in the country. Allen has connected on 63.6 percent of his passes for 1,632 and 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions in his first season starting for the Razorbacks.
His passer rating of 158.07 is second-best in the SEC, and he’s just one of two FBS quarterbacks with six multiple-touchdown games this season.
A list of 10 finalists for the Manning Award will be released Dec. 2, with the winner being named Jan. 11 after the College Football Playoff National Championship game.
