Dan Mullen led Mississippi State to a historic 10-win season in 2014, and the school’s first No. 1 ranking.

The Bulldogs lose a wealth of talent on both sides of the football, however, and have never been the program to attract four and five-starts. Mullen did a fantastic job developing the talent on this year’s roster, but that has been over the course of his six-year stay in Starkville.

How does Mississippi State’s current 2015 class shape up?

Current Mississippi State 2015 recruiting class

  • National Rank: No. 16. The Bulldogs are feeling the effects of their 10 wins in 2014, with perhaps the strongest class thus far under Mullen’s watch.
  • SEC Rank: No. 7
  • No. of Commitments: 29
  • No. of Commitments by Rating: Zero five-stars, seven four-stars, 22 three-stars

Four-star safety, and Mississippi native, Jamal Peters is the jewel of Mississippi State’s current class. Peters is the top-ranked recruit in the state, and will add talent to a secondary that struggled in 2014 against the deep ball and loses the likes of Jamerson Love.

The Bulldogs’ class features several offensive linemen, highlighted by four-star offensive tackle Tommy Champion. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound native of Jackson, Miss., should be able to compete early for a starting job on an offensive front that looks to replace its best linemen in Dillon Day and Ben Beckwith.

Mullen’s proven his ability to develop talent, and he’s beginning to attract a few upper-echelon players to Starkville due to his success. It will take time to develop the 22 three-star commitments, however the talent arriving at Mississippi State is much improved than when Mullen took the reins.

The Bulldogs have done a nice job with their class so far in addressing areas of need, especially in light of the departures looming.

Mississippi State fans should feel good about the class expected to sign with the maroon and white.
