Where would the NFL be without the talent it gets from the SEC?

Athlon released its top 25 tight ends in NFL history on Friday, and there are a pair of former SEC players in the top 10. Alabama’s Ozzie Newsome came in at No. 5, and Tennessee’s Jason Witten ranked No. 9.

Meanwhile, Missouri’s Kellen Winslow Sr. was No. 4, although the Tigers were in the Big 8 during his four years at the school from 1975-78.

Newsome and Winslow were two of the biggest stars at the position during the 1980s. Newsome was on two Cleveland Browns teams that fell just short of the Super Bowl thanks to the Denver Broncos. He was elected into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999.

Newsome is now a well-respected general manager of the Baltimore Ravens.

Witten is sure to join Newsome in the Hall of Fame some day as a 10-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro.
