Auburn coach Gus Malzahn expects running back Kerryon Johnson’s to make a quick recovery from his ankle injury, according to a report from AL.com.

“I don’t think it’s anything too serious,” Malzahn told AL.com before speaking at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham on Monday. “Hoping to have him back by the Arkansas game (on Oct. 22). He’s a tough guy, he heals pretty quick and so we’ll see what happens.”

Johnson “rolled his ankle,” Malzahn said, early in the Tigers’ win against Mississippi State last Saturday before being spotted on the sideline with crutches. Kamryn Pettway had a big game in his absence, turning 39 carries into 169 yards and three touchdowns.

But Johnson, a sophomore, is still the team’s rushing leader in carries (105) yards (538) and touchdowns (6). Auburn has an open date this weekend, giving him a decent amount of time to recover.
