On a night when the seniors were being honored, an Auburn freshman stole the show.
RB Kam Martin carried the ball 21 times for a game-high 176 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a 55-0 victory over Alabama A&M.
Now, Martin is ready for more, according to AL.com:
“Heck yeah; I’m always ready,” Martin said. “Whenever they put me in, I’m always willing to make things happen.”
The young back seems to have the support of his coaches, too:
“We were planning on getting Kam some touches,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. “I think you can see he’s got some talent. It was good for him to get out there and show what he could do. He’s really quick. He’s got good vision.
“He protected the football, made some really good runs.”
Auburn travels to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl next weekend, so it’s unlikely Martin will match his performance from Saturday, but with starters Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson battling injuries, Martin could have a big role against Alabama.
