One week after the highest scoring Iron Bowl in history, Auburn snuck back into the top 20 of the Week 16 Associated Press Top 25.

Auburn rose one spot in the latest AP poll, to No. 19. The Tigers are sandwiched between a pair of ACC teams in Clemson and Louisville.

The loss to Alabama capped a disappointing 8-4 campaign for the Tigers, who finished the season with the toughest strength of schedule in the country. The Tigers lost three of its final four games after a 7-1 start and a No. 3 ranking.

The 2014 season for Gus Malzahn’s team began with championship aspirations, the mantra around the Plains calling for the Tigers to be “13 seconds better” after Auburn fell just short of its second national championship in three seasons in 2013.

This season has been a roller coaster ride for the Tigers and its positioning in the polls. Auburn spent much of the first third of the season in the top 5, rising as high as No. 2 in the AP Top 25. Back-to-back losses to Texas A&M and Georgia dropped Auburn as low as No. 20.

The Tigers’ spot at No. 19 is not its final position in the AP Top 25; a final poll will be released after bowl games and the College Football Playoff are completed.
