Auburn will reportedly turn to freshman QB Deuce Knight in Week 13 against Mercer. Tom Loy of 247Sports, citing a source, reported the news on Thursday. Knight would be the third quarterback to start for Auburn in 2025.

Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold began the season as QB1. Ashton Daniels has since made multiple starts, helping jump-start the struggling Tiger offense. Before Thursday’s news, interim head coach DJ Drukin had already stated Arnold and Knight would both play in the Mercer game.

Sitting Daniels on Saturday helps preserve the quarterback’s redshirt. Daniels has already played in 3 games this season. NCAA rules allow athletes to participate in 4 regular-season games of the college football season and still take a redshirt. By sitting against Mercer, Daniels will be available to play in the Iron Bowl game against Alabama and still redshirt for 2025.

Knight is in his first season on The Plains. As a Class of 2025 recruit, Knight was rated 5-stars, the No. 1 player in Mississippi, No. 5 quarterback and No. 28 prospect overall on the 247Sports Composite. He was a big win on the recruiting trail for former head coach Hugh Freeze, signing with Auburn over 24 other scholarship offers.

Auburn vs. Mercer is set for a 2 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday, with the game streaming via SEC Network+.
