One of the top recruits in the class of 2023 is back on the market.
On Thursday morning, 5-star running back Rueben Owens II announced he was backing off his pledge to Texas.
The 247Sports Composite rates Owens 5-stars and the No. 24 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2023. The 5-11, 187-pounder out of El Campo (Texas) has 25 scholarship offers, including Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State and Texas A&M.
After being re-offered by the Steve Sarkisian staff, Owens pledged to Texas on Feb. 25. Prior to that commitment, Owens shared a top five in January which included Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M.
In his decommitment announcement, Owens says that he will still consider signing with the Longhorns.
