Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht redshirted his freshman season in 2022, but has started behind center in Ames for the past three seasons. It appears his time with the program is set to come to an end.
Becht will reportedly enter the transfer portal when it opens in January, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Thamel reports that Becht has told the Cyclones coaching staff of his decision.
The news of Becht planning to enter the portal shouldn’t be all that surprising. Matt Campbell left the Iowa State sideline after nearly a decade to become head coach at Penn State just a few weeks ago. With Drew Allar’s eligibility with the Nittany Lions exhausted after his 2025 season was cut short due to injury, the possibility of Becht reuniting with his former head coach in Happy Valley certainly isn’t out of the question.
Becht has thrown for 2,584 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2025, along with nine interceptions. He has also rushed for eight touchdowns.
In his first season as the Cyclones’ starter in 2023, Becht was named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. He passed for 3,120 yards and 23 touchdowns. In 2024, he was third in the conference with 3,505 yards.
