Texas broke out a big man touchdown play during the Big 12 title game on Saturday.
Quinn Ewers came off of a play-action fake and found defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat rumbling to the back of the end zone. The 6-foot-4, 362-pound fifth-year senior out of Huntsville, Tx. reeled in the ball for a score that put the Longhorns ahead 21-7 with 1:44 remaining in the first quarter. Usually used as a blocker in that goal-line formation, Sweat caught the Cowboy defense napping.
Sweat proceeded to then hit a Heisman pose in the end zone to celebrate and was later mobbed by his teammates on the sideline.
He’s played in 48 games during his career in Austin and was a 2022 Big 12 All-Honorable Mention and landed on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2021.
Sweat has recorded 122 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and 13 pass deflections over his five-year career. He’s also tacked on a pair of fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. In 2023, Sweat is fifth on the team with 40 total tackles and tied for third with eight TFLs. The touchdown reception was Sweat’s first career catch.
Texas leads Oklahoma State 28-14 midway through the third quarter.
