The Florida Gators entered their much-needed bye week on a 3-game skid, and with their star quarterback DJ Lagway dealing with an apparent injury he suffered during the team’s Week 4 loss to the Miami Hurricanes.
Lagway was seen after the game in a walking boot, which naturally stirred up all sorts of concern over whether or not the star sophomore would be forced to miss significant time.
Gators’ head coach Billy Napier was asked about the status of his star player under center on Wednesday morning and gave a rather promising update regarding the injury he sustained against the Canes.
“DJ is fine,” Napier said when asked why Lagway was seen in a walking boot after the game, per TV reporter Olivia Eisenhauer. “He got stepped on during the game (against Miami), we put a boot on him. He’s 100 percent.”
According to UF in-house writer Scott Carter, Napier also addressed the speculation surrounding the severity of Lagway’s injury that has been circulating, stating that it is “comical.”
“It’s comical,” Napier said. “The kid has been back in here Sunday working his butt off … we can’t control the outside narrative, obviously.”
If Lagway really is at 100% then that is obviously very good news for the Gators, especially because they have the No. 10 Texas Longhorns on deck for Week 6 coming out of the bye.
Florida will need all hands on deck for that matchup, as a potential loss could be the final nail in the coffin for the Napier era down in Gainesville.
