The Florida Gators are in the thick of fall camp as the 2025 season gets closer and closer to kickoff, and all eyes are on DJ Lagway due to the calf injury he suffered recently.

However, Lagway is progressing well in practice. Head coach Billy Napier gave an optimistic update on Lagway’s progress from Monday’s practice.

“He had a great day today, I think he had his best day today,” Napier said. “He took more reps today than he’s been taking. He didn’t participate in the scrimmage, but he’s hitting all his numbers.

“Ball’s coming out of his hand faster than ever in his career. I think he’s just obviously, we’re working on the soft tissue with the calf, and we’re gonna execute our plan there. So he’ll be modified for a while here, but yeah, I wish we played Saturday, but we don’t.”

During most of his freshman season, Lagway battles injuries to his shoulder, hamstring, and core. He also experienced shoulder pain in high school and when he arrived on campus in Gainesville.

Despite those injuries, Lagway had 1,915 passing yards and 12 touchdowns, compared to nine interceptions with a 59.9% completion percentage. He also had 101 rushing yards on 50 carries.

The Gators need Lagway healthy if they are going to come anywhere close to their ceiling, so Florida fans should breathe a sigh of relief thanks to this update from Napier.
