Billy Napier’s first SEC win sure wasn’t pretty, but SEC wins rarely are pretty.

The Missouri Tigers took the Gators to the wire Saturday, but Florida pulled it out 24-17. Florida improved to 1-2 in the SEC.

Anthony Richardson threw for just 66 yards and one touchdown, but he also added 45 rushing yards. Montrell Johnson added 86 rushing yards and a touchdown in the victory.

Florida forced 2 Missouri interceptions, including a pick-six by Jaydon Hill.

Following the game, Napier reacted to his first SEC win.

“We knew it was going to be a team effort, right? We knew it would be a combination of offense, defense and special teams. This group right here is a resilient group. They have been the entire year, right? It’s great to see those intangibles show up in a close, tough game. A ton of respect to Missouri and the football team that they have.

“I’m happy for this staff and these players. They do all the work. We’ve got a group that’s trusted us, and I’m very thankful for that.”

The Florida head coach was then asked to assess Richardson’s play.

“I’ve always believed since I’ve met the kid and watched him play as a competitor, he’s at his best in the critical moments. The third down throw down here was special. I had a front row seat to that. So, he continues to get better everyday. He’s a product of his work. He’s got character. He’s humble. He’s a fantastic football player.”
