Former NFL star Brett Favre has been working with the Concussion Legacy Foundation recently. The issue? Trying to stop kids from playing tackle football too early.
Favre, who won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers, was part of a PSA recently, urging parents not to put their kids in tackle football until the age of 14.
You can see the full PSA below:
On Tuesday, Favre appeared on “TODAY,” talking about concussions and his work to try to limit the number of kids playing tackle football.
He said he wants to keep kids from suffering concussions at a young age, saying he’s not sure if he has CTE or not from his own concussions:
“I don’t know what normal feels like. Do I have CTE? I really don’t know,” Favre told TODAY. “Concussions are a very, very serious thing and we’re just scraping the surface of how severe they are.”
He added that he wouldn’t encourage his grandkids to play tackle football:
“If they choose to play I will support them, but I ‘m not going to encourage them in any way to play. That surprises a lot of people, but I’m just fearful of what concussions can do,” Favre said. “And it only takes one. Maybe I have had a thousand… It’s just too risky. I’m not going to encourage them to play until there’s a treatment.”
“The best way to avoid concussions is not to play at all, and of course that’s not going to happen,” he said.
Will we see more kids playing flag football until high school?
