Brian Kelly and LSU can gain an edge in the SEC West race with a win over Alabama on Saturday.

The Tigers clinched the division for the first time since 2019 last season with a 6-2 mark in conference play. That matched the Crimson Tide’s SEC record, but LSU had the head-to-head tiebreaker via a dramatic 32-31 win on Nov. 5, 2022.

Now, nearly a year later, a similar scenario has played out. Kelly, on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Monday, discussed how both teams’ identity has essentially been established with just a handful of games remaining.

“This time of year, when you get into November, you are who you are,” Kelly told Finebaum. “The offense and the defense, they’re going to be who they are. And you don’t try to change things at this point. Everybody has enough self-scout, PFF. Everybody knows what they’re doing. This is about executing when you need to execute during those big times in the game. And so, players are going to make the difference in this game. This is not going to be about somebody outcoaching somebody. This is about players now executing at the highest level.”

Kickoff from Bryant-Denny Stadium is set for 7:45 p.m. ET on Nov. 4. The game will be televised on CBS.
