Brian Kelly will aim for a second consecutive victory vs. Alabama as LSU’s head coach when the Tigers head to Tuscaloosa this weekend.

The crucial contest will have major implications on the SEC West standings and the right to reach the conference title game.

A major part of pulling off the feat will be continued excellence from senior quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels anchors the No. 1 offense in the nation that averages 47.4 points per game. The explosive quarterback has passed for 2,573 yards, 25 touchdowns and 3 interceptions while ranking No. 2 nationally in QBR (91.8).

Kelly explained during a recent press conference that he has full faith and trust in Daniels to make his own decisions in the heat of the moment.

“He has virtually full autonomy in terms of 5 and 6-man protections, 7-man protections obviously he doesn’t need it, right. You’re protecting for 7,” Kelly said. “If you’re asking from a technical standpoint, he has full autonomy in the 5 and 6-man protection. And the run game overloads, right.”

Kelly continued by sharing more details on Daniels’ reads.

“So anything that’s an overload, he can get out of those overloads, and most offensive systems in particular the ones that run out of the spread, it’s do you throw the ball out on the perimeter, you’re usually tagged with a throw and an RPO.” Kelly said.

Kelly reiterated his confidence in Daniels successfully being able to execute the game plan.

“So a lot of the quarterbacks today in the running game have a tag where if the run is not a good look to take it and either check out of the run, or it’s built in where they can throw the ball out on the perimeter,” Kelly said. “So he has I would say quite a bit of autonomy when it comes to running the offense that we have.”

LSU at Alabama is set for 7:45 p.m. EST on CBS.
