Buffalo has brought back former Florida LB Brandon Spikes in an apparent response to an injury to former Alabama LB Reggie Ragland.

Ragland, the No. 41 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, suffered a non-contact knee injury on Friday. After getting checked out, it was reported he would be seeking a second opinion on Monday. Ragland missing time this fall would be a major blow to the Bills, who considered him “a steal” in the second round and planned on starting him immediately.
The Bills apparently aren’t waiting for the second opinion, re-signing Spikes, who last played for the team in 2014. The former Gator linebacker sat out the 2015 season after being cut by the New England Patriots due to his involvement in a hit-and-run crash.
Spikes, who played at Florida from 2006-2009, was a force on a dominant Florida defense. He was named a consensus All-American twice (2008-09) and was named first-team All-SEC in three seasons (2007-09).
In his five previous NFL seasons (2010-14), Spikes logged 340 total tackles, two sacks and six forced fumbles. He had recently posted on Twitter about working out with the Miami Dolphins.
