“It’s obviously super exciting as you know. Getting the chance to go home to Jacksonville where I’m from and play in such a huge game that’s such a huge rivalry,” Beck said. “I’m super blessed and super excited.”
Beck is no stranger to the intense rivalry as he’s switched allegiances.
“We would go every year, especially as I started to get older…I have to admit when I was younger I was wearing blue and orange,” Beck said. “There was a shift there in high school where I went to wearing red and black. Obviously here I am.”
Beck took the patient approach as Stetson Bennett guided the Bulldogs to back-to-back national titles and now he has his chance to help a 3-peat.
“I just always felt like this was the right option here. When I chose to come here initially I knew that maybe I am going to have to wait to play,” Beck said. “Ultimately, that benefited me as far as being ready to go out on the field.”
Beck says getting live reps at the beginning of the season did wonders to shake off any lingering rust from being on the bench.
“Just trying to learn how to play football again is a huge part of it,” Beck said. “Football in a game and football in practice are 2 totally different things.”
Beck has passed for 2,147 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. Along the way, he’s orchestrated some timely comebacks against South Carolina and Auburn. Beck takes a loose approach to critical situations, as he relies on his instincts and preparation.
“In those big-time moments, pressure moments, it’s like just go have fun and whatever happens happens,” Beck said.
Georgia vs. Florida is slated for a 3:30 p.m. EST kickoff (CBS).
