In most sports, the college game is shorter than the pro game.

However, as CBS announcer Gary Danielson noted on Bo Mattingly’s radio show on Monday, college football regularly features teams playing more snaps per contest than in the pro game.

Danielson said that’s something that needs to change to keep viewers interested:

He also argued that the NFL product is suffering because college players need to basically learn a different game after they’re drafted:

Danielson makes an interesting point, but changing the college game won’t be simple.

Whether or not changes are implemented limiting the snaps a team can run remains to be seen, but the rule that mandates stopping the clock after a first down should be the first to go.
