Cecil Hurt’s family, University of Alabama create memorial scholarship to honor late columnist
As many of you know, long-time Alabama beat writer and sports editor Cecil Hurt died earlier this week after a long illness.
Hurt had covered the Crimson Tide for 40 years and was a graduate of the university as well. To honor his memory, the Hurt family and the University of Alabama have started a scholarship in his name.

The University of Alabama and several of their coaches, including football coach Nick Saban and head basketball coach Nate Oats, spoke very highly of Hurts’ contribution to the university over his years of covering them.
Veteran journalist Stacey Mickles graduated from the University of Alabama and covers SEC football for Saturday Down South.
