Chad Morris is returning to Clemson as its offensive coordinator, over a decade since he oversaw some of the top offenses in college football. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news on Saturday.
Morris has been out of coaching over the past season while watching his son, Chandler, play his final season of college football at Virginia. That came after a season with Texas State in 2024 as its wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. The Bobcats were fifth in FBS in total offense that year.
Under Morris, the Clemson offense turned a 6-7 team in 2010 into a powerhouse in 2011. Morris was on the sideline for over 40 wins between 2011 and 2014. Tajh Boyd was one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, touching off a run of success behind center that eventually saw Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence pass through the program.
Morris then became a first-time head coach, coaching SMU for three seasons before two disappointing years at Arkansas. He then joined Auburn as its offensive coordinator before taking the reins at Allen High School in Texas.
After that, Morris joined South Florida as an analyst in 2022 before a similar role back at Clemson in 2023.
Morris will replace Garrett Riley, the Tigers’ OC for three seasons.
