Chris Doering believes Carson Beck can solidify his status as 1 of the best quarterbacks in the nation as Georgia’s schedule ramps up with some big-time challenges.

Coming off a bye week, No. 1 Georgia will clash with rival Florida on Saturday from Jacksonville. Then Georgia will conclude the SEC slate with home contests against No. 16 Missouri and No. 12 Ole Miss and a road game at No. 21 Tennessee.

The ESPN analyst believes the ease of the schedule to this junction has been a benefit for Georgia and specifically Beck.

“We’ve been really critical of the schedule that Georgia has played so far. Obviously, the Oklahoma game getting removed from Week 2 makes it look much more easy. But I do think that it has been perfect for this Georgia team as a whole and perfect for Carson Beck,” Doering said. “He has been able to get his feet wet. He has been able to learn on the fly a little bit here and not being forced into some really difficult positions.”

The junior has passed for 2,147 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions during his first season as the starter. Doering thinks the matchup against Florida will be an excellent litmus test for Beck.

“This will be an interesting game for Carson. Returning to his hometown of Jacksonville. Maybe the toughest test to this point in the season,” Doering said. “…I do think this is 1 that’s going to go a long way in helping define what we think of Carson Beck.”

Doering envisions Beck entering the Heisman Trophy discussion if Georgia can complete the SEC slate without any losses.

“This is a brutal 4-game stretch for the Bulldogs. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an SEC schedule with 4 successive games as challenging as having to play Florida, Missouri, Ole Miss, and going to Knoxville,” Doering said. “If he makes that run all the way through and they stay unscathed, I think you might see his name start being inserted into some Heisman talk.”

Georgia vs. Florida will be at 3:30 p.m. EST (CBS).
