Clemson is set to take on Texas in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff on Saturday afternoon in Austin.

This is the 2nd game of a CFP triple-header slated for Saturday afternoon. Penn State and SMU are scheduled to meet at 12 p.m. ET while Tennessee vs. Ohio State will serve as the primetime showdown in this round. Notre Dame defeated Indiana in the first game of the weekend on Friday night.

While both of these programs have storied histories and proud traditions, this will be the first-ever meeting in football between Clemson and Texas. As for this matchup, the Longhorns are led by a strong offensive line and an elite defense that caused havoc for opposing offenses all season. Clemson’s offense proved it was formidable for much of the season and the Tigers have always been strong on defense during the Dabo Swinney era.

Here’s info on the kickoff time and TV options for Clemson vs. Texas:

  • Date: Dec. 21
  • Time: 4 p.m. ET
  • TV: TNT
  • Streaming: MAX

Although ESPN retained the right to host College Football Playoff games in the 12-team era, the network agreed to sub-license some CFP contests to TNT earlier this year. As a result, ESPN will sub-license Clemson vs. Texas, which means it won’t be available on any ESPN networks. Instead, fans will have the option of watching the game on TNT or the streaming service MAX (formerly HBO Max).

The other first-round CFP game that will be sub-licensed this year is the SMU-Penn State, set to take place on Saturday afternoon. ESPN and ABC will have a traditional broadcast for Tennessee-Ohio State in primetime on Saturday night.

As for the broadcast itself, the game will still be produced by an ESPN crew. Dave Pasch and Dusty Dvoracek will be in the booth for this game while Taylor McGregor provides sideline coverage.
