We’ve now seen most of the Associated Press Top 25 with ranked teams spread out over Thursday thru Sunday night in Week 1. Since it is a holiday weekend, we still have one game between ranked teams to be played Monday night, but 23 of the 25 ranked teams have played their first game of the season.
Here’s how the top 25 has fared so far:
- Alabama def. Louisville 51–14
- Clemson def. Furman 48-7
- Georgia def. Austin Peay 45-0
- Wisconsin def. Western Kentucky 34-3
- Ohio State def. Oregon State 77-31
- Washington lost to Auburn 16-21
- Oklahoma def. FAU 63-14
- Miami lost to No. 25 LSU 17-33
- Auburn def. No. 6 Washington 21-16
- Penn State def. App State 45-38 (OT)
- Michigan State def. Utah State 38-31
- Notre Dame def. No. 14 Michigan 24-17
- Stanford def. San Diego State 31-10
- Michigan lost to No. 12 Notre Dame 17-24
- USC def. UNLV 43-21
- TCU def. Southern 55-7
- West Virginia def. Tennessee 40-14
- Mississippi State def. Stephen F. Austin 63-6
- Florida State lost to No. 20 Virginia Tech 3-24
- Virginia Tech def. No. 19 Florida State 24-3
- UCF def. UConn 56-17
- Boise State def. Troy 56-20
- Texas lost to Maryland 29-34
- Oregon def. Bowling Green 58-24
- LSU def. No. 8 Miami 33-17
Five ranked teams fell in a Week 1 spread out over four days to celebrate the Labor Day holiday weekend, including special Sunday and Monday night primetime showdowns. It is virtually guaranteed that Texas will fall out of the rankings, especially with commanding wins by South Carolina and Florida (the preseason poll’s two highest unranked teams listed as “others receiving votes” ). Maryland certainly can make the argument that it deserves Texas’ spot after beating the Longhorns. Ole Miss also made a strong case for being included in the next poll after defeating Texas Tech 47-27 in the Advocare Texas Kickoff in Houston. The Red Raiders were not ranked, but the Rebels notched a commanding win over a Power 5 team with a national audience watching. Two of the Sunshine State’s Big 3, Miami and FSU, could potentially fall out of the Top 25 after disappointing showings in primetime.
