The Labor Day weekend was fun, with ranked college football teams in action on five-straight nights (Thursday-Monday), but it’s Week 2 and it’s back to college football being about Saturdays. If you’re looking for SEC football or just want to watch some Top 25 teams, you have options.
Saturday Down South is here to provide a comprehensive viewing guide to the Week 2 slate for SEC fans.
All times are ET.
Kicking off the day
Highest-ranked non-SEC team in action: New Mexico at No. 5 Wisconsin (Noon, Big Ten Network)
S-E-C: No. 18 Mississippi State at Kansas State (Noon, ESPN); Nevada at Vanderbilt (Noon, SEC Network)
The biggest draw for SEC fans will almost certainly be Mississippi State at Kansas State. The Bulldogs thumped Stephen F. Austin 63-6 last week in the coach Joe Moorhead’s debut. This week, Moorhead has his starting quarterback, Nick Fitzgerald, available after an opening-game suspension.
Afternoon block
Marquee match-up: No. 3 Georgia at No. 24 South Carolina (3:30 p.m., CBS)
More S-E-C: Arkansas State at No. 1 Alabama (3:30, ESPN2); Southern Illinois at Ole Miss (4 p.m., SEC Network Alternate); East Tennessee at Tennessee (4 p.m.; SEC Network)
Highest-ranked non-SEC team in action: Rutgers at No. 4 Ohio State (3:30 p.m., Big Ten Network)
While Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee fans are sure to be following their teams, the rest of SEC nation will likely be watching the Georgia-South Carolina game. The winner of that game will have a head-to-head tiebreaker in the SEC East that could decide who goes to Atlanta come December.
Alternatively, the Urban Meyer-less Buckeyes will also be in action.
Saturday Night’s Alright
Marquee match-up: No. 2 Clemson at Texas A&M (7 p.m., ESPN)
More S-E-C: Southeastern Louisiana at LSU (7 p.m., ESPN2); Wyoming at Missouri (7 p.m., ESPNU); Kentucky at No. 25 Florida (7:30 p.m., SEC Network); Alabama State at No. 7 Auburn (7:30 p.m., SEC Network Alternate) Arkansas at Colorado State (7:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network)
Highest-ranked non-SEC team in action: No. 17 USC at No. 10 Stanford (8:30 p.m. FOX)
Much like the afternoon block, many SEC fans will be watching their teams, but others will likely be drawn to the Clemson-Texas A&M game. The Tigers come into College Station as favorites, but Kyle Field at night is a tough place to play and Jimbo Fisher knows a thing or two about beating a Dabo Swinney-coached team, something he did four times at FSU (2010, 2012-14).
If the SEC action does not appeal, viewers can check out a pair of ranked Pac-12 teams over on FOX.College football schedule: Week 2 viewing guide
