TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — To the surprise of no one, junior wide receiver Amari Cooper and senior quarterback Blake Sims topped the University of Alabama coaching staff’s players of the week list following the 42-21 victory against Florida at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Also named on the offense were sophomore running back Derrick Henry and senior guard Arie Kouandjio, with junior safety Landon Collins, senior linebacker Trey DePriest and junior defensive lineman Jarran Reed on the defense, and Reuben Foster and ArDarius Stewart on special teams.
Sims was named the Walter Camp offensive player of the week on Sunday, and Cooper the SEC’s co-offenive player of the week on Monday.
For the first time in school history, Alabama had a 400-yard passer (Sims), a 200-yard receiver (Cooper) and a 100-yard rusher (Henry). Sims set the school record for total yards in a single game, and the most passing yards by an Alabama quarterback at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Cooper notched his sixth sixth-straight 100-yard receiving game, and had the third-most receiving yards in Crimson Tide history (the 201 were the most at Bryant-Denny Stadium).
Henry led all rushers with 111 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown. Kouandjio had the top grade on the offensive line and had no penalties, no sacks and no pressures.
The defense limited Florida to just 200 total yards (107 rush, 93 pass) and 2-of-13 on third down conversion attempts. Collins recorded five tackles, including one for a loss, an interception and two pass breakups. DePriest had seven tackles.
The weekly honors were announced on Tuesday, a day later than usual due to Alabama being on a bye and not practicing Monday.
