Dak Prescott injury: NFL insider shares major update on Cowboys QB

Dak Prescott plans to receive surgery to repair a hamstring injury suffered during the Dallas Cowboys’ 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Prescott suffered what Schefter reported as a “partially torn hamstring” during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game and left the contest. Backup QB Cooper Rush finished out the afternoon.
According to Schefter, the preference of team doctors is that Prescott receives surgery, but he will head to New York to meet with a specialist for a final opinion.
“The Cowboys believe it is better to address the injury now than to let it heal on its own and encounter complications later,” Schefter reported.
It’s been a difficult year for Prescott, who signed a 4-year, $240 million contract extension with the Cowboys in September. But the former Mississippi State star has struggled, throwing 11 touchdowns vs. 8 interceptions and just 1,978 yards through 8 games in 2024. Before leaving against the Falcons, he was 18-of-24 for just 133 yards.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, are 3-5, and their troubles don’t rest solely on the shoulders of Prescott. But with Prescott commanding such a high payday, and with Jerry Jones’ frustrations surfacing several times during the season, the spotlight will always shine brightly on a franchise that hasn’t been able to capture a long-awaited Super Bowl triumph since the days of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin.
