Danny Kanell shared his thoughts on the upcoming battle this weekend between Tennessee and host Alabama.
Tennessee is aiming for their first victory in Tuscaloosa since 2003 after notching their first win against Alabama since 2006 last season.
The CBS analyst notes that an improved Tennessee defense could help the Vols on Saturday in this edition of the rivalry .
“Yeah they don’t have Hendon Hooker and the offense that they had last year. But the good news is they didn’t bring that defense they had last year either,” Kanell said. “Their defense is actually getting after the quarterback.”
Kanell acknowledges Alabama has made strides since losing to Texas but still isn’t fully sold.
“Bama, I think they’re closer,” Kanell said. “But I still don’t trust them the way you did when they had Tua or Mac Jones or even Jalen Hurts where they would just typically blow out these type of opponents at home.”
Kanell is expecting a grind-it-out affair between the foes and reveals his betting pick.
“I don’t think they hit on as many of them against this Tennessee defense. I think it’ll be an ugly game. Bama’s defense is legit. I think they’ll be able to slow down Milton and company,” Kanell said. “I’m going with the under. Tennessee and the 9.5 is my favorite play.”
Tennessee at Alabama is slated for a 3:30 p.m. EST kickoff (CBS).
