Deshaun Watson drawing major criticism after poor showing against Commanders

Deshaun Watson has had a dreadful showing for the Cleveland Browns against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

With 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Watson was sacked at the Commanders’ 41 and lost the football, with Washington recovering it to take over near midfield. That’s just one of the low points of the day for Watson, who was 10-of-22 for just 94 yards at that point. He’s also been sacked 5 times.

The Browns entered the afternoon 1-3 after a season-opening loss to the Dallas Cowboys, then defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars before falling to the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders. They’re down 34-6 late in the third quarter, so a 1-4 start to the season seems likely.

Meanwhile, Watson has underperformed since being traded to the Browns and signing a massive contract extension prior to the 2022 season, missing much of that year due to a suspension stemming from multiple sexual assault allegations. Sunday’s performance is another step in the wrong direction with a number of social media posts calling for the former Clemson star to be benched in favor of backup Jameis Winston:
